GENERAL UNIT DESCRIPTION
PIN is searching for a proactive colleague to assist in supporting EMA software pilot program across Syria, assuring data collection and management, user support, and overall application on-site support. EMA officer will work closely with PIN teams on the ground providing humanitarian assistance on the ground, as well as collaborating with the country programme administrator and EMA team in the Czech Republic.
EMA is a unique web-based application developed by People in Need in cooperation with external software developers with a vision to provide a tool for monitoring of education. It provides an open source and secure data platform for educational needs, such as storing information about schools, courses that are offered to students, students attendance in the class and also their grading. The system communicates with other PIN platforms to enhance reporting of collected data. In addition, the system provides simple dashboards for visualisation of collected data with possibility to export data to Power BI for more sophisticated reporting. The project’s piloting phase starts in September 2022
REPORTING LINES REPORTING TO:
• Technical Manager: Education Team leader
• Supervisor: Protection and Education Programme Manager
REPORTING TO: Country program administrator, link to Head of EMA
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES (RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS):
Closely working with the EMA country program administrator to manage the application setup for the whole country such as user management (adding/removing users and their privileges) and project management (maintenance of project database and their connection to Navision software)
● Act as the field focal point for developers and towards HQ - proactively communicate needs to field data officers and other local PIN team members
Making sure that all relevant data is available and coordinating with Data management team to ensure that data is collected on schedule.
● Take responsibility for data
o collection/editing/deleting of records
o data import and pre/post-import data verification
o prepare data for Kobo questionnaires
● Reporting technical issues
o Write/record detailed description of reported issues, maintain close communication with EMA administrator.
o Collect information from colleagues and analyse issues and their needs in order to quickly understand the root causes of problems in the software or user’s work with the platform and apps
● Supporting the EMA administrator to provide trainings to the field education team and schools
● Closely cooperate with EMA admin, team of developers and project management team
● Participate on occasional team meetings
PRINCIPAL COMPETINCES REQUIRED:
Education & experience
● Experience as IT software and database support
● Background in educational environment
● University degree in IT (BSc) or 3+ years of experience in the field
● Fluent Arabic and advanced English skills
Desirable skills:
● Analytical skills and creative problem-solving skills
● Good orientation in how software and operating systems work
● Excellent listening and questioning skills, combined with the ability to interact confidently with clients to establish what the problem is and explain the solution
● Ability to prioritize workload and work under deadlines
● Methodical, thorough and attentive to detail
● Interest in innovations and technical solutions in the humanitarian sector
