General Unit Description
WASH department is supporting the IDPs and host communities in Norther Syria with water, sanitation, solid waste management services, and access to Hygiene items and promotion.
General postion Description
The main responsibilities of the Water quality assistant are: to coordinate implementation, and monitoring of the WASH infrastructure interventions carried out as part of PIN’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programming in Syria, with the goal to improve public health of the target population. To reduce the health risks to people affected by protracted conflict and suffering from lack or poor state of WASH-related services by providing or rehabilitating water and sanitation systems.
Principal Job duties (responsibilities AND TASKS):
• Confirm quality and quantity of water available, negotiate access to water resources (wells, pumping stations, etc.) and obtain relevant approvals from authorities;
• Achieve the water tests and records;
• Assist in the design and implement/monitor implementation of water storage, treatment and distribution systems – potable / other uses;
• Supports program team in terms of Negotiations, preparations and management of contracts with service providers (may include preparing tender documentation and evaluating capacity and quality of contractors);
• Supervise the work of the community volunteers.
• Any other activity as requested by the WASH Engineer.
I. Other
• Other tasks assigned by employee’s Line Manager corresponding to actual needs of the mission, programs, and projects.
• Substitute relevant colleagues (fully or partially) during their absence when assigned by employee’s Line Manager.
• Understand and adhere to the mission’s National Staff Handbook, PIN Code of Conduct, PIN Key Policies and relevant guidelines.
Principal competences required:
I. Technical competencies:
• Fluent written and spoken Arabic;
• Good written and spoken English language skill is an advantage;
• University Degree in relevant field(s) and at least 1 years of practical, hands-on experience in NGO work.
• Ability to work in unstable and difficult conditions, independently and in a team;
• Very good computer skills (Microsoft Office);
• Reliable, committed; an ability to function well independently and within a team; ability to adapt to flexible working hours when necessary; professional, proactive, organized and service oriented;
• Familiarity with the humanitarian context affecting Syrian population;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, managers and external counterparts, including I/NGO, community and administrative bodies’ representatives (HAO, municipalities and water authorities); candidates must be able to interact with sensitivity with all stakeholders respecting diversity and gender, and be able to sensitively and successfully integrate into a multicultural working environment with people from different nationalities and backgrounds;
• A strong commitment towards humanitarian relief and disaster operations; it is of utmost priority that candidates understand, respect and actively promote the spirit of the mandate and core humanitarian values, including: humanity and the humanitarian imperative, independence, impartiality, neutrality, and accountability in aid.
