People in Need is looking for Community Outreach Workers for its Syria Mission based in South Idleb Office


Position: Outreach Workers

Location: Hazzano Office

GENERAL UNIT DESCRIPTION 

People in Need (PIN) has been implementing education projects in Syria since 2013. Currently, PIN is supporting new learning centres in Idlib and Aleppo Governorates, in order to provide Syrian school-aged children with quality education. The services provided by PIN to these learning centres include providing teachers with incentives and training, learning and teaching materials, psychosocial activities, and more.


In order to help with the implementation of the non-formal project in the IDPs camps, People in Need is looking for a Community Outreach Worker. The position is reporting to the Senior Education Officer as his/her direct line manager. The Community Outreach Worker strongly coordinates with the PSS Officers and Referral Officers.


REPORTING LINES REPORTING TO:

 

• Technical Manager: Education Team leader 

• Supervisor: Protection and Education Programme Manager 


REPORTING TO: the Senior Education Officer and Education Officer as his/her direct line manager

REPORTING ON: Non


PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES (RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS): 

• Actively engaging in the communities where PIN Learning Centres are operating

• Visiting households with out of school children, providing awareness on the importance of education and supports with information on how to enroll children to Learning Centres

• Conducts small assessment on barriers to education and collects data from the communities on the reasons of drop-outs

• 90% of working time to be spent in the IDP camps, discussing with communities and feeding their opinion back to Education team responsible for programme design

• Creating a link between PIN’s Education programming and communities, sharing information and awareness on the project activities and timing 

• Actively provides advices, information to the Education management, as well as Gaziantep team on how to make project activities more meaningful, how to involve communities in more levels

• During household visits, identify children with special needs in very sensitive way

• Support the Referral Officers with referral of individual cases to external services, whenever needed

• Prepare awareness campaigns for parents and community and support in providing parenting sessions

• Link students to community or PIN resources/services as needed

• Advocate on the student’s behalf when necessary to aid progress toward desired goals

• Help students navigate possible setbacks

• Visit students (at risk of drop out or with other identified needs) in their homes and speak sensitively with their families, guardians 

• Ensuring that documents connected to outreach activity are in compliance with PIN’s internal procedures and donor requirements

• Any other duties requested by Education Coordinator or Senior Officers

PRINCIPAL COMPETINCES REQUIRED: 

Education & experience

• University Degree in social work, psychology or related human services field, required

• 1 to 2 year’s case worker/social worker or MHPSS experience

• Experience working with out-of-school children, IDP children and youth 

• Knowledge on case management and case reporting 

• English language knowledge is an asset

• Must successfully pass background check

• Female candidates are encouraged to apply

Desirable skills:

• Understanding of children development and how this can be affected by living in crisis

• Understanding the impact of being out of school and the importance of education


• Socially active, and having excellent communication skills

• Ability to establish and maintain trusting relationships (having patience & perseverance)

• Ability to develop appropriate boundaries

• Must demonstrate sensitivity to needs of students and families in crisis

• Understand psychosocial support and its importance in the context

• Ability to work independently and self-confidently

• Consistently maintain required paperwork

• Ability to use Microsoft Excel, and Word proficiently 

• NGO experience
