People in Need is looking for Education Assistant for its Syria Mission based in Azaz - Souran Office


Position: Education Assistant

Location: North West Syria – Souran

End of application :14 July 2022

Line Manager: Senior Education Officer


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

1- The main tasks of the Education Assistant are

- Monitors the Learning Centers’/schools operational needs such as gas, water, cleaning products, consumables and communicates them to the Senior Officer

- Monitors the Learning Centers’/schools staff educational needs such as training or mentoring in any relevant topics (classroom management, lessons planning, inclusive education, child and teacher well-being, etc.) and communicates them to the Senior Officer

- Coordinates with LCs’/schools managers, manager assistants regarding any other needs of the LC/school, and reports the needs to relevant parties, Senior Project Officer in Syria and Project Officer in Gaziantep,

- Collects attendance sheet of students and teachers and ensures that it is done correctly

- Checks, corrects and uploads all completed relevant documents to SharePoint

- Tracks the attendance of children and reports the low attendance on a weekly /monthly basis

- Ensures that the student tracking system is completed correctly and regularly

- Attends parents’ meetings and prepares meeting observation report

- Observes the classrooms and analyses the gaps in teaching and learning using appropriate tools

- Upon agreement with the Senior Officer, provides trainings for the teaching staff after receiving the appropriate ToT in the base office

- Monitors the distributions of all types of kits and materials

- Ensuring that documents comply with PIN’s internal procedures and donor requirements

- Assisting in any other duties requested by the Senior Officer or other line managers


2- The main tasks of the PSS Assistant are:

- Supervise the daily registration of children on PSS activities

- Supervise the PSS facilitators and ensure that activities are implemented in an appropriate manner

- Ensure a safe and peaceful atmosphere in the Centers/schools

- Ensure that children feel comfortable, safe, and respected in the Centers/schools

- Be a positive role model to the children

- Be familiar with and ensure adherence to PIN’s Child Protection Policy

- Ensure that identification of individual referral cases is being taken care of as per PIN’s Referral Mechanism SOP

- Ensure that all groups of children have the right to participate without discrimination, especially the most vulnerable children

- Ensure that equipment inventories are up to date and that replacement needs are highlighted

- Ensure that health & safety regulations are followed and that health & safety incidents are reported

- Assist the facilitators in solving problems arising in the Centers

- Hold regular meetings with the PSS facilitators to monitor their work and provide them with support and coaching/mentoring

- Work with PSS facilitators in planning weekly/monthly schedules

- Assist the PSS facilitators in conducting parents’ and community meetings

- Responsible for receiving feedback from the children and logging all feedback

- Responsible for managing PSS-related communication flow between Centers and PIN SLP office in Gaziantep

- Assisting in any other duties requested by the Senior Officer or other line managers

3- Others:

- Other tasks assigned by the Senior Education Officer or Programme Manager, corresponding to actual needs of the mission, programs, and projects.

- Substitute relevant colleagues (fully or partially) during their absence when assigned by employee’s Line Manager.

- Understand and adhere to the mission’s National Staff Handbook, PIN Code of Conduct, PIN Key Policies and relevant guidelines.


 PRINCIPAL COMPETINCES REQUIRED:

TECHNICAL COMPETINCES: 

• Bachelor/Institute Degree in Education, pedagogy, social work of relevant major, required

• Experience in the Education sector, teaching/PSS experience including working with children.

• Experience of working for humanitarian organization is desirable.

• Familiarity with protection concepts such as child protection, referrals, PSEA and action against harassment

• Good IT skills - Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel (

• Problems and tasks solving approach

• Ability to work within a team.

• Motivation to work in NGO sector.
