People in Need is looking for a Livelihoods Assistant SBG for its Syria/Turkey Mission/Based in West Aleppo Office


Position: Livelihoods Assistant for Business Grants

Duty Station: NWS Aleppo

Line Manager: Livelihoods Senior Officer

Closing Date: 22nd April 2023 


General Post Description

The position is part of PIN’s Livelihoods Unit, that delivers range of livelihood support activities in Northwest Syria. Specifically, he/she will be responsible for direct implementation of the following modality od assistance: New Livelihoods Development via Provision of Business Grants and Capacity Building.

The main tasks and responsibilities 

The position holder, will assist with the following steps, under the guidance and supervision of the Livelihoods Officer, in cooperation with other team members:

I. Project Implementation:

 Coordination with community regarding project implementation

 Selection of beneficiaries, review of applications from target community for Small Business Grants, used for income generating activities, business creation/expansion

 Overseeing the implementation of beneficiaries’ activities/businesses supported by the grants, ensure they are in line with information provided in the application and PIN’s guidelines

 Monitor and report issues beneficiaries face, provide advice and report issues to line manager

 Adaptation of training materials for the beneficiaries

 Support delivery of the training and coaching sessions for beneficiaries (focused on business)

 Distributions, including ensuring all the needed documentation

 Support organising of events for beneficiaries (marketing days, networking days)

 Maintaining required databases of beneficiaries and other needed documentation, as instructed

 Provide needed inputs for line manager, needed for project tracking and reporting

 Report any issues that may hinder project implementation to the line manager


The position requires intense field-level work with the broader community and selected beneficiaries, and requires frequent travelling to the project locations.


II. Other:

 Maintain coordination and active communication with team members, to ensure joint achievement of project objectives

 Follow the weekly plans of activities

 Report to line manager progress of activities, issues and needs for quality implementation

 Report any challenges and difficulties that may hinder the timely implementation of the project

 Attend relevant trainings and team coordination meetings where and when appropriate.

 Ensure proper archiving of project documentation related to the role and activity.

 Substitute relevant colleagues (fully or partially) during their absence when assigned by line manager

 Other tasks as assigned by line manager

 Understand and adhere to the mission’s National Staff Handbook, PIN Code of Conduct, PIN Key Policies and relevant guidelines

Desired profile of the candidate:

Technical Competencies:


• Bachelor Degree preferred 

• Previous experience working preferably in the field of livelihoods, economic activities, social and economic empowerment, business development is desired

• Previous experience working with NGO is as asset

• Deep understanding of local context and the way on how to motivate and empower vulnerable people, specifically women

• User knowledge of MS Excel, Word PowerPoint and outlook 

• Arabic language (mandatory)


Personal Competencies and Qualities:


• Motivated to be intensively engaged in direct work with beneficiaries, including frequent travels to target locations

• Able to motivate beneficiaries, provide guiding and encouragement, receive feedback

• Active listener, participative facilitator

• Good communication skills, able to engage with target beneficiaries in friendly and respectful manner

• Able to provide participatory learning methods, in appropriate manner 

• Team player

• Understanding of NGO approach and values
