GENERAL UNIT DESCRIPTION
WASH department is supporting the IDPs and host communities in North West Syria with water, sanitation, solid waste management services, and access to Hygiene items and promotion.
GENERAL POSTION DESCRIPTION
The main responsibilities of the WASH Assistant are:
- Mainly to support the identification, implementation, and monitoring of the WASH infrastructure interventions and operational support carried out as part of PIN’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programming in close coordination with the Senior. WASH Officer and WASH Engineers.
- To follow all soft activities of the project (Hygiene CVA, Hygiene Promotion), in addition to tasks related to CFRM like conducting CFRM and sharing information sessions for the targeted population
The current project includes installation of solar power plants for water stations, water and sanitation networks rehabilitation/extension, Hygiene CVA and Promotion, and operational support for water stations.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES (RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS):
1- Assess health risks, water and sanitation needs, available resources and the capacity of existing systems – damaged or neglected infrastructure and sources, possibly camp settlements;
2- Identify suitable water sources, confirm quality and quantity of water available, negotiate access to water resources (wells, pumping stations, etc.).
3- Consult with community representatives about access, design and management of water and sewage systems, sanitation facilities, etc.;
4- Monitor implementation of works in the water station: water storage, solar power plant installation, treatment and distribution systems – potable / other uses;
5- monitor implementation of sanitation/sewage systems;
6- Advices on best management practices of household liquid and solid wastes, hospital wastes and other community facilities, including drainage and vector control and so on;
7- Deliver training on water treatment, water quality testing, maintenance, fees collection and hygiene.
8- Assess condition, set up maintenance systems, train staff and arrange repairs of tanks, pumps, generators, pipe networks, drainage systems and water quality testing equipment;
9- Support Hygiene promotion and CVA activities.
10- Report daily to the supervisor about the progress and any challenges.

• Other tasks assigned by employee’s Line Manager corresponding to actual needs of the mission, programs, and projects.
• Substitute relevant colleagues (fully or partially) during their absence when assigned by employee’s Line Manager.
• Understand and adhere to the mission’s National Staff Handbook, PIN Code of Conduct, PIN Key Policies and relevant guidelines.
PRINCIPAL COMPETINCES REQUIRED:
Technical competencies:
• Fluent written and spoken Arabic;
• Good written and spoken English language skill is an advantage;
• University Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Ability to work in unstable and difficult conditions, independently and in a team;
• Experience in supervising and mentoring other staff;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different cultural
backgrounds;
• Strong knowledge and experience (at least 2 years) in WASH – infra and constructional activities, in humanitarian sector.
• Good computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Water CAD, AutoCAD);
• Reliable, committed; an ability to function well independently and within a team; ability to adapt
to flexible working hours when necessary; professional, proactive, organized and service oriented;
• Familiarity with the humanitarian context affecting Syrian population;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, managers and
external counterparts, including I/NGO, community and administrative bodies’ representatives candidates must be able to interact with sensitivity with all stakeholders respecting diversity and gender, and be able to sensitively and successfully integrate into a multicultural working environment with people from different nationalities and backgrounds;
• A strong commitment towards humanitarian relief and disaster operations; it is of utmost priority
that candidates understand, respect and actively promote the spirit of the mandate and core
humanitarian values, including: humanity and the humanitarian imperative, independence,
impartiality, neutrality, and accountability in aid.
